Marketing

Being findable is a structure problem before it is a spending problem

Most local businesses do not need a bigger ad budget first. They need pages that match what people actually search, a profile that is current, and reviews arriving on their own. That is the work.

What the work is

Six things, done every month

No retainer that quietly becomes three social posts. Here is what the time goes on.

Local search structure

Pages built around the searches that happen in your towns, one for each service in each place you work, rather than a single page hoping to rank everywhere.

Content that answers the real question

Guides written for what somebody types before they are ready to call, structured so search engines and answer engines can both lift a clean answer out of them.

Google Business Profile

The profile kept current and posted to, because for a local business the map pack is often doing more work than the website's front page.

Reviews, handled properly

A request flow that asks at the right moment and routes unhappy feedback to you first. Nothing that offers anything in exchange for a review.

Measurement you can read

A monthly picture of what moved and what did not, in plain language, with the next month's work chosen from it rather than from a template.

Email that is not spam

A list you own, sent to on a rhythm people tolerate, with the technical side set up so what you send actually arrives.

How we know it works

We run this on our own properties first.

Somebody with a problem does not search for a company, they search for their problem in their town. So a site that says what it does on one page, and lists the towns it covers on another, is answering neither.

The builds we own are structured the other way round: a page for every service in every city, each one written rather than templated, with guides underneath for the part of the decision that happens earlier. You can read exactly how two of them are put together.

Where marketing usually leaks
  • One page for every town

A single service-area page cannot rank for eleven places at once.

  • A profile nobody touches

The map pack rewards recency, and an untouched profile reads as closed.

  • Reviews left to chance

They arrive when you ask at the right moment, and almost never when you do not.

  • Reporting nobody reads

A dashboard with forty numbers hides the two that changed.

Marketing works better on a site built for it

If the site is slow, thin, or structured around the business rather than around what people search, the first month of marketing is spent fixing that. Worth knowing before you start.
